Check-in for past REU students.
Hi.
Presumably, you have gotten to this page because you were an NNUN REU Student in the late 1990s or early 2000s. If otherwise, you are lost. If you are not an NNUN REU student from 1997-2003, please exit.
A little update. You participated in Research Experiences for Undergraduates as part of an NNUN Program. NNUN was the National Nanofabrication Users Network- a group of 5 sites including Cornell, Stanford, Howard, Santa Barbara, and Penn Stae. NNUN finished its 10year funding term in 2003.
The successor to NNUN is NNIN; the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network, an expanded Nanotechnology network consisting of 13 schools.
We recently completed our summer of a network REU program. Last year over 70 students participated at 12 NNIN sites. We are seeking funding to continue our program in the future.
A question which often comes up relates to the effectiveness of the program. This is difficult to relate as many of the benefits develop over a long period of time, as students complete their education and begin their careers. Which is where you come in. We are trying to evaluate the outcomes of our program by looking at some of the first REU students in our program, most of whom should be settling into their careers by now.
So, we have spent some considerable effort to find you. We ask that you take a few minutes to complete the following survey. You will be taken to a special survey page on SurveyMonkey.com , which we use for collecting such information. Actually, I began this survey several years ago, including only the 1997 & 1998 participants. The results have been really interesting both to us and to our funding agencies. Within the sample so far, a very high percentage of REU participants go on to graduate school and end up in science and engineering careers. Surprisingly, the government has very little of this data. Our program, because of its large size and long tenure, has a unique opportunity to gather some meaninful data.
We appreciate very much your cooperation. We hope that our program had a lasting positive impression on your education. In any event, we wish you the best. And I am sure that your REU stie would welcome you back for a visit at any time.
SIncerely
