National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI)
	Because of the promise of nanotechnology, the federal government established the National Nanotechnology Initiave to coordinate federal programs in this new area.  Lead by the National Science Foundation, NNI encompases research and technology programs in nanotechnology within twenty-tow major governement agencies and departments.  The NNI web site contains extensive information about nanotechnology funding and research initiatives   NNIN is funded via the National Science Foundation as part of the National Nanotechnology Initiative.

NNIN Social and Ethical Issues Portal
	Nanotechnology is both an evolutionary and a revolutionary technology. Nanotechnology promises to have wide ranging effects on the lives of everyone.  A portion of NNIN resources are devoted to examining the Social and Ethical Impacts of Nanotechnology.  Our  NNIN SEI portal contains a host of resources.

	While some of the technological products of the nanotechnology are expensive and "industrial" , there are a number of consumer products that you can buy today that take advantage of the propoerties of nanotechnolgical materials.
