by Melanie-Claire Mallison
Dear NNIN REU Interns:
Each year, there are good questions asked about the final report, which need answering. So I'm going to list that Q&A here. Please check in often, since new questions coming mean new answers on this site!
ALSO! Remember to take a look at previous program publications. It can be very illuminating! http://www.nnin.org/nnin_reu.html

NNIN REU Final Report Advices
ADVICES
[1] Send your final report to ALL THREE people listed in the instructions: your PI, your site coordinator and myself.
[2] Use the CORRECT abbreviation for your site! The abbreviation is only THREE LETTERS, so using the three letters I request is no harder than using three letters I did not request!
NNIN REU SITE ABBREVIATIONS:
| ASU = Arizona State University | UCA = University of California at Santa Barbara
| | CNF = Cornell University | UCO = University of Colorado
| | GIT = Georgia Institute of Technology | UMI = University of Michigan at Ann Arbor
| | HAR = Harvard University | UMN = University of Minnesota
| | HOW = Howard University | UTX = University of Texas at Austin
| | PSU = Pennsylvania State University | UWA = University of Washington
| | SNF = Stanford University | WUS = Washington University in St. Louis

[3] As noted in the FAQs above, you should grayscale your color images to make sure they make sense. Here's why: Bad Graphs, Bad! in PDF.
Finally, a Few Words on “Principal”
Principle: 1 a : a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption b (1) : a rule or code of conduct (2) : habitual devotion to right principles <a man of principle> c : the laws or facts of nature underlying the working of an artificial device
Principal: 1 : most important, consequential, or influential : chief <the principal ingredient> <the region’s principal city>
So you worked for a Principal Investigator (the number one person in your research group) – NOT a principle investigator (a person with scruples). I mean, your PI may have scruples too, but that is not their title apropos of the final report!
