NNIN at NSTA Convention

Since 2005, the NNIN has provided education and outreach support to teachers attending the National Science Teachers Association annual meeting.  We have been the only organization exhibiting at NSTA with a focus on nanoscale science and engineering education.

The NNIN exhibit booth provides teachers with information on instructional units developed by NNIN and other nano-education groups. In conversations with attendees we stress that nanoscale science and engineering is based on the basic building blocks of nature – atoms and molecules – and that nanotechnology can be included in currently taught science topics. One handout that teachers are eager to take back to their classroom is a poster with size and scale information.

In 2006 we offered an informational breakfast at the Anaheim meeting.  An enthusiastic group attended the Introduction to Nanotechnology session and provided us with interesting information on teacher’s knowledge and interest in nanoscale science and engineering.

At the St. Louis meeting in 2007, the NNIN RETs presented their summer experiences and resulting instructional units at a session entitled --Nanotechnology: Teacher-developed Hands-on Activities for your Classroom.

Look for us at the exhibit hall at the NSTA 2008 meeting in Boston.
