NNIN at National and Regional Teachers Conferences

NNIN Education Staff regularly participate in National and Regional science teacher conferences. Typically, we participate either in the exhibition hall by distributing copies of Nanooze, providing information on nano-education resources, offering demonstration of lessons and activities, and distributing information on our RET program or by offering a focused teacher workshop, or both.

NSTA
Since 2005, the NNIN has provided education and outreach support to teachers attending the annual and regional National Science Teachers Association meetings. The NNIN exhibit booth provides teachers with information on instructional units developed by NNIN and other nano-education groups. A unique part of our exhibit booth is that attendees can speak with teachers who have participated in our Research Experience for Teachers program and who have succesfully implemented nanotechnology into their science classrooms. The number of teachers seeking classroom materials addressing nanotechnology continues to increase each year we exhibit demonstrating a high level of interest in incorporating nanoscale science and engineering into the science curriculum. At the NSTA, we often do teacher workshops which focus on how nanotechnology can be tied to standards-based science lessons. Our exhibit booth provides teacher resources including special print additions of Nanooze our online science magazine.

Regional Teachers Conferences

While the number of such activities that NNIN can participate in each year is limited, NNIN is looking for opportunities to share its nanotechnology resources with conferences. Please contact us if you are interested in partnering. Email nancy.healy@mirc.gatech.edu.
